The Do’s And Don’ts Of Data Loss Prevention

One very common cause of lost data amongst computer users from all walks of life; being they home computer users, business users or even IT support technicians, is that which occurs following an issue with the machine that prevents it from booting. Data loss is often a side affect of attempts to get the machine working again.

Knowing how to deal with the potential for data loss is what separates those who have been there from those who are yet to experience it. So what kind of scenarios are we talking about here and what are we looking for?

Computer is working but simply won’t boot up properly: Often this can be overcome by starting your computer in safe mode if you know how, and going from there. But this will not always help as you may be suffering from a software issue or conflict or even possible a hardware issue such as a failing hard disk drive.

Your computer loses its zing and starts to feel very jaded and slow: This could be the result of hard drive fragmentation which can be rectified, or could be a more serious operating system problem. The potential for data loss is possible in both scenarios and the most serious operating system problems are best dealt with by doing a totally clean OS install.

Virus or Malware infection: Computer viruses and other Malware applications, if not properly handled from the start, will inevitably lead to situations whereby a full reinstall is the only option to truly remove all trace of the malicious software from the system.

So what are the options here once the problem has arrived, and how can we avoid any form of data loss when in a lot of circumstances the only answer is to wipe our system and start from fresh?

The best way to avoid data loss in the first place is to follow a simple protocol. Backup your important data on a regular basis. There is simply no good excuse for not doing this as external drives and online backup centers are readily available to all.

External hard drives can be purchased in most computer shops now days and a quick search online for online backup will also give you a number of remote back up options.

So what’s the answer when the data loss monster has knocked at your door? Well if you truly cannot afford to lose data, take out the hard drive from the machine and replace it with a new device for the reinstall. This leaves you the option of professional help if all else fails.

You can find more great advice on data recovery and in particular for businesses raid data recovery here.

Antispyware Software Can Stop Cyber Criminals

There is no doubt that technology affects most people who live anywhere other than third-world countries. It is difficult to go through a day without the need to put some type of technology to work. The most common and powerful piece of technology for most people is the personal computer that they use at home and at work. Because people and businesses are now so dependent on their computers, it is essential that they make sure to have effective antispyware software installed and running on their systems.

Like just about every type of advancement made throughout time, there are associated positives and negatives. When it comes to the technological advancements that surround us today and which are so much a part of our lives, there is no difference. In many ways, technology is a two edged sword, bringing about conveniences and expanding capabilities in ways many people had never dreamed of, yet at the same time bringing with it some alarming and numerous internet threats to every person who uses a computer to access the internet.

Most people are aware of identity theft products thanks to companies such as Lifelock but losing your social security card isn't the only way to have your identity stolen. Hackers are constantly prowling the internet looking to steal an identity.

One of the key weapons effective in fighting the battle against these despicable internet threat security trends that are so widespread these days is to have a robust and dependable antispyware software package installed on your system. But, it must be noted that installing internet security software is simply the first step, since it must be actively used and continually updated.

Any internet threat that is instigated by cyber criminals of the world is constantly changing in an effort to stay one step ahead of even the best antivirus and antispyware programs on the market. Because of this, it is imperative that you update your antispyware and other computer internet security software frequently.

These days, many of the top-of-the-line internet security suite software packages are designed to automatically check for updates and download them without any intervention from the computer user. This can all happen seamlessly in the background so that other work and important tasks are not interrupted, yet the internet safety software is always functioning at the best possible level. The only requirement for these automated software updates to happen is for the computer to be running with the application running in the background or on a system level, and making sure that the computer is connected to the internet.

Most antispyware software packages will check for updates at least once a day. If an update is found, then the patch will be downloaded and the program will restart to make the new changes effective. Yet there is a program that offers the highest level of updates available today. The Kaspersky internet security program will update itself on an hourly basis, making it the program that is best able to respond to new threats more quickly, over any other safety application.

People all over the world rely on their computers and internet every single day. Important business transactions are performed and even mundane tasks at work all rely on a computer and the internet. That is why internet safety has become such an issue with most people. No one wants a computer that is bogged down with viruses, Trojans, spyware and malware. Surfing the internet without the right software to protect you is akin to playing Russian Roulette. You never know what is out there lurking and waiting to strike.

Get rid of Antivirus 2009

As a computer repair expert I do my best to track common threats and learn as much as possible about new and existing threats.  Over just the last 2 weeks we have seen a huge surge in antivirus 2009.  Because of this we have written a few guides to help people understand this threat and teach them how to fully remove this as well.

For a more detailed guide head over to here to our remove antivirus 2009 page.  There you will find a very detailed hands on guide that takes you step by step in the removal process.  You should note that you may need to purchase software to fully remove other threats as well.

Being infected with Antivirus 2009 is a clear indication that you have other threats installed on your computer as well.  It is very common to have Vundo and the zlob trojan as well.

That is why we do reccomend that if you are not tech savvy to hire a pro.  I know how hard it can be to have your computer in a shop and hiring a tech to come out can cost upwards of 300 dollars.  Here is a great online antivirus 2009 removal company that removes viruses and spyware online.  Not only are they inexpensive but you can have your computer back and running in just an hour and you never have to wait in line. This is my personal favorite computer repair company.

The most annoying thing about antivirus 2009 is how it constantly re-directs you to their home page.  I know you are with me on this. This product is also clasified as scareware as it trys to trick the user into making a quick purchase.  They try to make the user think they are being hacked in the hopes your emotions will get the better of you and you hand over your credit card information.  This company has several civil lawsuits against it and Microsoft is leading the charge to shut them down.  Unfortunately this never ends. Not only will purchasing real time protection help to remove this threat but you also get the added bonus of havign your computer secure so you do not get infected again.  We do offer 100% free removal guides for this but you are better off just taking the safe route and having an expert remove it our by purchasing software to protect your computer for the long haul.

The Importance of Data Backups

All PCs and their parts are subject to failure. Essentially imminently each business will be faced with some kind of PC failure. The biggest threat to companies in a failure will be some form of info loss or info corruption. While the reasons for information loss and info corruption change, not all are simply fixed.

When an information loss or info corruption happens, plenty of times the sole option is to revive the info from a formerly made backup of the influenced info. Plenty of companies today over look the significance of information backups till they suffer the sudden loss or corruption of valuable information. Once this happens it'd be too late, unless the business is fortunate enough to revive the information by physically recreating all the influenced files from the start. This naturally is only probable if they've a hard copy or another source from which to recreate the information. It'll also cost the business a valuable amount of man hours in recreating the information too. That is if they are lucky enough to be in a position to even recreate the information in the 1st place. If your business has made backups of all info stored on the hard drives, restoring that data will go much quicker and require a load less effort. It'll also need a ton less man hours and tears shed over the loss which has took place. Today there are tons of options available to companies for storing and backing up their information. Some of the options available are tape drives and tape libraries, CD-R's and CD-RW's to DVD technologies. There's also the option to use NAS ( Network Area Storage ) and SAN ( Storage Area Networks ) and even remote backups over the Net. Even Windows XP / Server 2003 offers a revive point in case your system becomes corrupted. Naturally just having these tools available to you isn't enough.

They have to be used correctly and on a successive basis to be effective. Imminently all systems will face some form of failure that may need a revive from backup. The point is to perform those backups so they are there when you want them. It is advised that you sit down with your systems director to make a backup plan for your business right away if you've not done so already. Also suggested, is that you review your backup plan annual too. When discussing your backup plan there are certain options to think about. Like how frequently to perform the backups and what sort of backup media is most fitted for your business. Depending on your sort of business and how much your data changes from day by day you may wish to perform backups weekly, daily, or many times each day. For most little to mid-sized companies I might suggest a full backup once per week with incremental backups at the end of each work day. You can also desire to think about if to keep some of your backups off site in the case your business is influenced by some kind of natural or man made disaster. In addition you could also require software to monitor your backup process to make sure that your backups are no longer corrupted too. This could be a common experience with some kinds of backup media too. Ultimately you can also wish to perform a system revive on an occasional basis so you can check the usefulness of the restoration process that you have set in place and to practice it so it is going as smoothly as feasible. Following these steps might be crucial to your business continuity should your systems fail and you suffer a loss or corruption of info. Setting up a backup plan as well as a restoration plan will also go a good way in making sure your business operations if you run into a system failure. This would help build a "who is to do what" list if your systems should fail. Failing to backup your business information, particularly mission urgent info is nothing short of a recipe for disaster. Nothing is as crucial to your business as the information that sits on the hard drives of your systems.

Backup Data Properly

Computer data can be very important to us, especially those of us who make a living on the computer. Over the last several years, the computer has grown on all of us, making our lives so much easier. For that very reason, it’s easy to tell that if we lost our computer data, it would completely destroy a majority of us.

Losing data can be an overwhelming thought to say the least. Computers store data, although machines have been known to fail. Even though the computer has become a lot more reliable over the years, it is virtually impossible to prevent computers from losing data.

You don’t need to take this lying down through, as you can indeed fight back. The ideal way to ensure that you never lose your precious data, is to back it up and keep backing it up. You should back up your computer data at least once a week, with once per day being the recommended way to do it.

In the past, and even some today, the floppy disc is the main method used to back up computer data. Even though they store a small amount of data, they are easy to access, easy to use, and nearly every computer has one.

Those of you who are looking to take things to the next level should look into backing up your entire hard drive. Backing up your entire hard drive is something that everyone should do, as it is indeed one of the best and most reliable ways to backup your computer.

When you create a backup of your entire hard drive, it will copy all of your information, so if something happens you’ll always have your data. Doing a full backup of your hard drive is great, although it can be very time consuming. To make matters worse, it is recommended that you create a backup at least once a week. On the other hand, if what you have on your computer is very important, you’ll find it more than worth the effort and time needed to back things up.

Another way you can back up your data, programs, and files, is to burn them directly to a data CD or DVD. This way, you can select which files or folders you want to keep. If you use CD/RW or DVD/RW disks, you can continue to add information to them when you create a backup. If you don’t use the RW (re-writable) media, then you won’t be able to go back and add more information to the disc.

Burning data directly to discs are the method of backup that most people are using these days, although backing up the entire hard drive is the preferred way of backing up your data. If you plan to use discs, you’ll need either a CD or DVD burner, which you can get for a great price these days. The discs are cheap as well, which only makes this method of backing things up that much better.

Whether it’s for your business or for personal reasons, you can’t go wrong backing up your data. You should always strive to back things up properly, as this will ensure that the data will always be there when you need it. This way, if you computer happens to crash or you lose everything on your hard drive, you’ll always have your backup files to go back to. This in itself can save you a lot of time, effort, and quite possibly even money - just for the simple fact that the files are all but a copy away to restore.

Prevent Data Disasters with Online Backup Solutions

Data disasters happen. It's all too tempting to think that it won't happen to you, until it does. Data protection is essential - could your company survive a cataclysmic systems crash, causing your data to be compromised or lost? Hint: probably not.

So what to do? The days of the floppy disc are dead and buried, and backing onto another hard drive kept on the same premises as the original data will not protect against fire or theft.

One of the most comprehensive solutions available is to copy your data to an offsite location using a remote online backup solution. But just searching on Google reveals hundreds, if not thousands of potential services to choose from. So how do you know which one is right for you? Consider the following points to help your decision...

Space

Space is the first thing to consider when choosing an online backup service. How much space are you currently using across your network? Is that likely to increase? If so, at what rate? You'll want to "hire" sufficient space from the online backup service you wish to use for your current and future needs, so work out how much space you require and check out the best prices.

Security

Companies advertising more than one data center offer simultaneous duplicate backups of your data. Look for warnings from companies about your passkey. They will tell you if you lose your passkey, you cannot access your data backup account. This is a good thing! It lets you know that no one can randomly access your backup account without your permission or passkey.

Frequency

More is better. You want to get multiple copies of your data, automatically uploaded on a frequent and regular basis. The more often your data is backed up, the more protection you have in the event of a virus or irreparable corruption. Ensure your remote backup solution allows updates as frequently as you'll need them.

Price

As the old adage goes, “You get what you pay for.” Typically low-cost services take longer to complete the initial backup. They reduce their bandwidth costs by slowing your upload speed, which limits the amount of data that can be backed up, therefore limiting you when all you want to get done with maintenance and backup and get on with your work! Equally, there's no point in wasting your budget on an expensive yet fast backup solution if you're unlikely to regularly require fast backup of large files.

The best online backup service is the one that fits your needs and pocketbook, so do your homework before you buy to make sure you make the most out of every penny spent on online backup.

WoW Fishing Guide: A Recipe for Success

I have decided to come up with this World of Warcraft fishing guide in order to guide and teach you how to level up as easily and quickly as possible. Anything with no relevance was omitted.

Seeing that fishing and cooking go hand in hand, this WoW Fishing Guide will also cover cooking and how you can increase your skills on both aspects of the game at the same time.

This guide will take place in 15 hours, or 11 if you are fast.

What do you think causes one’s skills rate to change

The number of successful catches is what makes your skill rate go up.

Here is the approximate equation:

(current unmodified fishing level - 25) / 25 = # of fish needed to level, assuming that there's a minimum number of fish per catch.

You should be conscious that your skill rate changes depending on the number of successful catches that you make. It only quite depends on the number of successful catches you make.

WoW Fishing Guide - Horde

1. Begin journey at Bloodhoof Village in Mulgore.

2. Purchase Brilliant Smallfish and Mud Snapper Recipes after talking to Harn Longcast.

3. After that, you must go to Stonebull Lake where you may begin fishing.

4. Equip your rod, then apply the shiny bauble lure to it. This makes fishing a lot easier!

5. Spend approximately 40 minutes in catching 60 Brilliant Smallfish.

6. After those 40 odd minutes, you should have also caught about 30 Longjaw Mud Snappers. After catching the 60 Longjaw Mud Snappers, cook all of them. You can return to Harn Longcast and use his fire, or spark your own.

7. Start cooking the Brilliant Smallfish.

8. You may begin cooking the Longjaw Mud Snappers upon reaching level 50.

9. Catch Longjaw Mud Snappers in the pond in Orgrimmar. The drop rate in Orgrimmar is better so it will be more efficient for you to go there than stay in your current position.

10. Between levels 50 and 70, learn Journeyman cooking and fishing.

11. Catch another set of 30 Longjaw Mud Snapper to increase your cooking to 100.

12. Move to Tarren Mill in Hillsbrad. Talk to Derak Nightfall and purchase Bristle Whisker Catfish recipe.

13. In order to reach your cooking level up to 175, you will be required about 80 to 100 of these.

14. When you reach between levels 125 and 150, go to Shadowprey Village in Desolace and purchase the Expert Cookbook.

15. Then, go to Booty Bay and purchase a book needed for your fishing level. Speak to old man Heming and buy from him his Expert Fishing.

16. Once you reach 175 cooking, go to Shadowprey Village in Desolace.

17. Talk to Wulan, buy Mithril Head Trout recipe, and fish at the pier.

18. Catch around 60 of these to raise te cooking level to 225.

By the time you complete the 18 steps above, you probably have leveled up your fishing and cooking to 225. This is the farthest that you can go if you haven’t reached level 35. But if likewise, you will have 2 quests to complete before continuing.

Quest 1 - cooking, and quest 2 - fishing

For my alliance fishing guide, go to World of Warcraft Fishing Guide (Alliance).

Check out our World Of Warcraft Fishing Guide & Wow Fishing Guide

I strongly suggest signing up for the free mini-course which is also a quick and simple guide on how to level up 1-75 in WoW. Thanks a lot for reading! I hope you've gained some valuable info from this WoW fishing guide.

How to Backup Computer Files Photos and Everything Else

The majority of us know that we should be backing up our data.If you're one of those lucky people who has never had a serious computer crash then you're one of the lucky ones. Anyone who has knows that this very second is the best time to start backing up important information on your PC to save it from loss should something happen.

There are a few things you need to consider before choosing a method to backup your data. Knowing what you want backed up, remembering to keep it simple and do your home work are just a few of the items you need to keep in mind when making your decision.

Know what Files and Data to Backup

Before you rush out to buy an expensive piece of software to backup your system you need to know what it is you want backed up. Some software is developed specifically to create a complete system backup, but this might be more then you need.

The majority of home PC users need their photos, videos, and Documents backed up but can skip all the system stuff. This is just a bit to technical to get into for the average computer user.

Keep it simple to be consistent

Just because a backup service or program offers more features then another doesn't make it better.Trust me when I tell you that if you purchase or subscribe to a service that offers to many features you likely won't keep to a regular backup routine, it will just take to much time to complete the process each time.

Rather, look for an easy to use program that can be setup and then allowed to run on a schedule. This is the simplest way for home users to keep data up to date. A couple of good programs to consider are Carbonite or Mozy online backup.

Research Before you Buy

Don't just rush off to buy into any old service, take some time to read online backup reviews to ensure you're getting a quality product and service that will serve it's purpose. This is a good way to ensure that the service or software you're about to spend money on is as good a program as it suggests it is.

Spending just a few minutes before you buy a program or service will ensure that you will easily be able to restore files and also that files are backed up properly.

How To Undelete Deleted Files

Your first reaction if you've just accidentally deleted a file on your computer is probably to go to the recycle bin. If you deleted the file from the "right" place, there's a good chance that your file will be sitting there and you can just right click your mouse and select "Restore".

But what can you do if the file doesn't show up in your recycle bin? Is the file lost permanently? It's almost never unimportant, backed-up files that get deleted by accident. What a pain!

The good news is that almost always, it's perfectly possible to get back a deleted file. Even if it's not shown in your recycle bin. That's because Windows just marks the space the file used as being available for re-use.

The bad news is that this won't last forever and the more "stuff" you do on your PC, the bigger the risk that Windows will re-use part or all of that files' space, which will make recovering it expensive or maybe not even possible.

So stop whatever you are doing on your computer. That really does mean stop, not just slow down. Including browsing the internet, looking through your music files, whatever. The more things you do, the bigger the probability Windows decide that the space previously occupied by the file is space it can use elsewhere.

If you've got access to another computer, use it to download a program like this one to undelete files. If you haven't got the use of a second PC then it's possible that you'll be OK using your only computer (the chance increases if there is a large amount of disk space left unused) but this is definitely not the best way.

Once you've downloaded a file undelete software program, it's just a matter of pressing "next" most of the time and there's a very high chance your file will be recovered for you.

You can download a file undelete program here. There's even a free trial, you can be 100% sure it will work for you.

Web Software Testing: Ensuring Web Software Security and Functionality

There are various phases in software development life cycle (SDLC). Software performance testing is an important stage within the software development cycle (SDCL). A variety of testing methods are used beginning with the application's development until it gets the marketing stage. From the initial development of the application until it reaches the maketing phase different testing types will be used. Moreover there are different varieties of the software that needs to be tested before it is released to the costumer.

There are many different classes of software and software for web applications is one of them. With the advent of the Internet web software has significantly increased in importance, as the Internet has had a substantial impact on our daily lives.  Because of the high impact Internet has on our daily lives any web software is carefully tested before launching in order to reduce the associated security risks that originate from the use of the Internet.

While web software testing is important, there’s always a rush in developing and testing it. In the design and development stages, testing engineers utilize different groups or types of tests such as code testing, [load testing], compatibility testing, functional testing and regression testing.

The web software is usually released using a pattern of software release known as alpha/beta testing. This is a simulated or actual operational test conducted by potential users or an independent test team at the developers' site. The software is incomplete at this point and testing is done only for small modules of the software. When of-the-self software is employed, alpha testing is often used as an internal acceptance test. After being alpha tested software will only be released when all the main functional sections have been both coded and tested.

After the alpha testing stage is finished, the software advances to the beta phase of testing. The web software should be fully completed by now. The software is released to a restricted number of users for testing before it is officially released. Since the web site design uses HTML coding, it’s easy to integrate individual web pages on site; hence the alpha/beta method is usually not used for website development This is because HTML coding makes it very easy to design independent web pages that can afterwards being easily integrated so the design team can code and test each page independently.

In code testing the software testing or development engineer examines the codes for software bugs. Web development is a very rapid process so the abscence of bugs is required. Paired-programming is one of the favourite methods that highly qualified testers can use to produce bug free coding.

The Paired programming is a method in software development where two programmers work simultaneously at one keyboard. The driver types in the code while the observer or navigator reviews each line. This strategy is appealing because fewer bugs are produced. According to The Economist, "Laurie Williams of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City has shown that paired programmers are only 15% slower than two independent individual programmers, but produce 15% fewer bugs.”

The testing process continues through out the software development cycle so that at the time of final release it is free of bugs. Load testing is done to see at what point the application fails or the performance reduces when under heavy loads such as multiple users on or heavy server traffic. Load testing will provide information regarding the amount of users that could connect simustaneosly to a site, the number of transactions that the system can cope at the same time and its responsiveness under different circumstances or amount of traffic.

Compatibility testing needs to be carried out to asses the software compatibility with the software and hardware that it may interact with. This includes testing compatibility with operating systems, database, browsers, peripherals and backwards compatibility.

The testing used to validate the conformance to specifications and requirements is the Functional testing. This testing involves performing a sequence of tests to validate the behavior of the software, feature by feature using a large number of normal and abnormal data. Regression testing is carried out to check that any changes made to the code in order to enhance it or to fix defects has not affected any functionality.

Regression testing is an important testing method when the software development method is iterative. In this type of development, the developer adds another module with some functionality to the existing module that's running. One should make sure that adding this module does not ruin the existing functionality. Regression testing is done to find out any of such instances. The above mentioned methods are essential tests to complete the web software testing.

How to Make My Computer Faster

Speed up that PC today

You have had your computer now for a few months or even years and now it seems to take forever to boot up and moving around is slow.  If you suffer from a slow computer don’t worry.By the end of this article you will know what you need to do to speed your slow computer up.

One of the first and probably the most helpful thing you can do is to get a computer tune-up.  Just like cars computers need maintenance.  You would never consider waiting years to change your car’s oil.  If you did then your car won’t last that long.In almost every case a PC should be fine tuned once a year if not every three months for every day users. While there are several online tools you can purchase to repair your registry and optimize your computer nothing beats a real expert taking a look at your computer.Computer Tune-up software has come a long ways but it's still not as good as hiring a computer repair pro.  Only a real pro will be able to look at the broader picture and let you know all the things you may need to consider.  Even if that news is to buy a new computer. Places like this pc repair Company do a great job at repairing computer right online.  This is a California based company and it’s like having the tech right in your home. This is really cool sutff, they remote into your computer and you can watch them as if they were there. This is by far my favorite online computer repair company because these guys always go that extra mile.  It’s not hard at all with a service like this.  It’s also cheaper then you think so check them out first.

Besides hiring a pro to get the job done many tech savvy people are capable of handling it themselves.  If this is you then consider a free 30 day trial of JV16 power tools.  Just Google that name and you will see them pop up first.  These guys offer a free fully functional trial for 30 days.  It’s well worth the download. If you have little computer knowledge then don't use this software as it can do more harm then good in the wrong hands.

Another thing to consider is to max out your computer memory. As software gets more complicated your computer needs more RAM (Memory) to stay current.  Google memory configurator and plug in your computer model into any memory configurator program and you will be able to see how much memory and what type your computer can use.  This is one of the cheaper ways to get a little more life out of your computer.

If it comes down to it and you do need a new computer then consider checking out this XP to Vista Data Transfer site.  Its good stuff and they have many guides on how to transfer files from XP to Vista and any computer to computer data transfer.

High Definition DVR - You Need One

The High Definition DVR technological science is so unbelievable as it has give movies and television shows a brand new fresh appearance. But, there is still one small problem: much of the stuff that's on television is still awful! A stupid sit-com will insult your intelligence in high definition just as easily as it will in standard def, if not more and this is where DVRs come in.

The DVR is the short form of digital VCR which is also called a personal VCR or PVR which essentially is same as a Video Cassette Recorder, which records content from a television program. The DVR is however capable of doing much more than the old VCR, in the sense that it makes TV viewing more crisp where you do not have to waste time watching trash. Plus it is always recording what you are viewing, so you'll be able to pause a live transmission as if it were a recording, then come back to it later without missing a thing.

The general models are available from way back in 1999 but the latest models are prepared to handle high def materials. The technical storage is impressive, the High Definition DVR is run by a hard drive, which holds more than your desktop computer and can store thirty five hours of high def content or three hundred hours of standard material. of course the new models have improved in other areas, too - for example the TiVo Series 3, for instance, can up scale standard definition content to give it better quality, and can record 2 channels simultaneously while you watch a third.

The shortest and simplest way to obtain a High Definition DVR is to take one on rent from the cable company, by paying six to ten dollars per month as rentals, but users usually are not too happy with the shortened memory storage (eight to ten hours of high def content) as well as the difficulty in handling the accompanying hardware. The most feasible answer to this problem is to buy a TiVo Series 3 HD-DVR, which right now costs about $500 but you would be amazed at its quality of transmission, storage storage and comfort of use.

The positive effects of using this type of recording device are huge. This device can be set to record all the programs where you have a special interest even if you do not know that these are broadcast - for example, program your TiVo to record all movies starring Keanu Reeves whenever it is shown on any channel. You no longer have to surf through the endless channels for equally endless hours and the best part is that you could view your favorite shows without the both of commercials, and this itself is such a smart way to watch TV.

The affect is so great that nearly 70% of television advertisers confirmed in a recent study that with High Definition DVR  encroachment in the market, the thirty second spots would become defunct. This also included a comment by one one-quarter of advertisers who said that they would reduce their Television advertising budget and use it in some other avenue. With a Blu-Ray DVD player and an HD-DVR connected to your HDTV, you can finally fight the good fight against the tyranny of mindless television ads.

For more great information on High Definition DVRs, HD-TVs, and more click on one of the links in the article.

Canon Ixus 870

Admittedly, appearance should be one of the last factors considered by prospective camera buyers but there is no doubt that the Canon 870 is a fairly attractive piece of technical equipment. Also available is the "gold" finished version, which looks almost like a piece of jewellery. In terms of size, it's about the same as a pack of playing cards, which means it fits easily into a pocket or handbag.

The Canon Ixus 870 is more than just a good looking digital camera, it packs serious photographic technology. The lens is the equivalent of a 28 millimetre-112 millimetre, which provides a much wider angle of view than most of its competitors. Previously only available on high-end models is Canon's image-stabilization technology. It's been incorporated into the Canon 870 and that means that sharp images can be produced without a tripod down to approximately 1/25 of a second.

Automatic face detection is also an added feature of the Canon Ixus 870 IS. This works well and also is able to detect faces in partial profile. A face self-timer function, although a bit gimmicky waits until you join the group before taking the photo. Nineteen scene modes have been added, including a 30fps VGA movie mode and a nifty macro setting.

The Canon Ixus 870 IS boasts Canon's DIGIC 4 processing technology that promises less noise at higher ISO settings but still there is much noise at 1600 ISO which is not-bad considering the class of camera.

Featuring an 28mm wide-angel lens, the Canon Ixus 870 IS takes great photos of beautiful landscapes and great group shots. Viewing your favorite photos has never been so good with the awesome 3.0 inch PureColor LCD screen.

It's not a "serious" Canon Digital camera in the usual sense and no one is going to mistake the Canon 870 for one. For example, you won't find an optical viewfinder or manual mode. If that's not a big deal to you then you can expect to be rewarded by some fabulous photographs from this little beauty.

What You Must Know About CNC Programming

CNC Programming is one of the most effective ways that people are using today in order to cut metal and do other processes in manufacturing. There is a huge number of people who are doing CNC programing to make metals, foam and woodworking objects for a hobby. CNC has created a way for many people to manufacture or fabricate parts quickly and effortlessly.

Computer numerical control is what is behind CNC, and it represents the computer usage for certain operations that need to be done. And this type of process is usually used to router, lathe, laser machines and foam cutters - and the same process can be used for mini versions of these machines.

Actually, there are two main categories in which the CNC program will be placed, a continuous path positioning category or a point to point category. It is not a surprise if a computer executes both of these two types of programming, because it can be done with a sophisticated software program. In order to run the machine properly, the operator has to understand both of these processes completely.

And now I will present you with the explantaion of the categories stated above:

Point to point positioning - this category is mostly used when drilling, boring, punching or tapping is needed. While machine process is being done, we use that kind of a process to position from one point to another point. In other words, it works from the X to the Y position or to as many positions as it is instructed and keeps going until the process is finished.

To use contouring, we need continuous path positioning which is present in case we work with a lathe or a milling machine at the moment. It's just a different name that we use for the same category. This means that the cutting tool moves in a continuous motion from one point to another until the piece is completed. This means that the operator has to be able to program the machine so that it continues on several axes at a time and simultaneously.

If we understant these two processes perfectly, we will have better results on the work we do.

OPENRSM's CloudBackup Revued

Product Review - Online Backup - OPENRSM CloudBackup

What is it:

OPENRSM CloudBackup is a service that lets you store files and backup data securely to a nearly unlimited remote backup storage vault. Unlike other services, CloudBackup lets you backup as little or as much data as you need with no restrictions. You pay a flat fee (which get's you a BIG datastore) and only pay extra for the actual storage you use in excess of that.  It works the same on Windows, MAC, and Linux systems as well.

You can access the CloudBackup drive as a mapped network drive, or use a browser (Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Chrome, etc.), over WebDav or via the local http server. Keeping a local cache for immedicacy of operations (and background completion) is a big feature of OPENRSM CloudBackup. The builtin backup utility works well and previous versions are kept if desired. This makes CloudBackup suitable for backup as well as temporary file storage or as an remote filesystem since it works with native tools such as robocopy, sync tools such as SyncToy, rsync, etc.  Block level incremental backup is supported through CloudBackup.

Cool Features

  • Your selected data is continually monitored to ensure everything is backed up automatically
  • Your data is encrypted No one else can access your data
  • You only get charged for what you use
  • OPENRSM Cloud Backup gives you access to your all of your data in Windows, Mac and Linux
  • Stay on top of your backups with reporting
  • Drag and drop, copy and delete Use it just like your existing hard drive
  • When you subscribe to OPENRSM Cloud Backup, it is yours to use on all your computers

Who it helps:

Since it's so versitile, CloudBackup is more than online backup, it's also a shared data store for any mixture of Windows, MAC, and Linux systems. The interface is easy to use and can be setup as easily (more easily actually) than most other programs. So, OPENRSM delivered CloudBackup for novice to expert users who want safe, secure backup with the added feature of remote file access without being restrictive.  Or, like me... BOTH. For example you'll have the full context menu available on the mapped drive, and it works with regular copy applications and any file managers. You can set it and forget it and let the scheduler backup any changed files over your net connection.

Good Points:

Set it and forget it backups. Set up the automatic backup and you no longer have to worry about disk failures or data safety. Efficient bandwidth use. It uses it's cache as a buffer and only updates changed bytes.  So bandwidth use is limited after the first backup. Easy administration but powerful too. Options settings for limiting bandwidth, saving previous versions, and detailed logging. You can get dirty if you want but I hardly ever needed to access the manual. Works with your software and OS. The network drive is just like having your own unlimited size SAN. I use OpenOffice Base, wikipad and others to use the data files directly off the network drive and this works perfectly. It's also terrific for setting your collaborative software (wikiedit, etc.) to use it., to use the Network Drive. And it doesn't make any difference if you have a PC, a MAC, or a Linux machine (or a whole network of them)... It's as simple as this... It just works.

Possible Concerns:

Depends on your internet connection. Inherent to CloudBackup is your broadband connection. If you have restricted usage limits then CloudBackup might push it for your first backup cycle. However, you can set your backup to specific times and limit bandwidth use independently. Upload speed limit controls and it's efficent use of bandwidth makes this a non-issue. It has to be said I guess I'm always open to do nearly the same for cheaper or free. But OPENRSM CloudBackup is very cost effective with a feature set surpassing more expensive providers.

Here's why I reccomend it:

It's the secure solution for painless backup and file access. Together, it's like the killer app of all time. Add the extreme flexibility and I heartily recommend this with no qualms.  Paying a small monthly fee to have his peace of mind is worth it for me.

How it Fares:

  • OPENRSM CloudBackup has more space and reliability than a local backup.
  • Files are still available for all processes with full functionality unlike something like Xdrive or Mozy.
  • The backup works as good as a local backup.
  • You can still use your own sync or backup software with it, even if you don't really need them as the backup interval can be set as low as 5 minutes and as high as weekly.

The Last Word

CloudBackup is a powerful, flexible, and reliable way to solve data storage issues inexpensivly.  I have to recommend it except if you have unreasonable external restrictions on your connection, or because you don't need to backup data (and if you don't need to backup, you dont' have a computer so your not able to read this anyway). Systems that can do this for less may be out there, but I havn't found any. CloudBackup is a rock solid way to make life simpler for my home and work computers.

Do IT Yourself (DIY) CNC Machine

CNC

Whats nice now is that if you want to build your own CNC Machine there are plenty of website that can help you get plans and info on where to start. The only thing you will have to decide is what type of CNC machine you want to make.

You can start by thinking about what you want the machine to do. As an example, you can build a small or large machine, it can do milling, routing, cutting or lathing, you can build it for a variety of different materials and you can use it for developing just about anything.

Most do it yourself information gives you pictures and step by step instructions as to how to start and complete your DIY CNC machine. Although many people want to build a CNC machine from the bottom up you also have the option of using kits or modifying a regular machine you have to the CNC. As an example, you may have a lathe machine that you want to convert to CNC and all you will need to do is make a few extra steps.

Parts for making your own CNC DIY machine are readily available from a variety of manufacturers. You also can find parts that are from other things. As an example, if you are building a milling machine you can use the motor from an old dot matrix computer if you can find it. You can scavenge parts from a lot of different places in order to make a functional CNC machine.

Also, there are blogs, forums and other information geared specifically toward the individual who wants to build their CNC machine. If you are a more hands on learner there are also a variety of videos that show you how to create a DIY CNC machine.

In order to build your own CNC you will need to acquire the components that are right for your machine. As an example, the parts you need to build a milling machine will be different than those to build a foam cutter. Its important to know which machine you want before you begin this process as that will determine which direction you head.

The person who builds their own machine needs to know about circuitry, computers, programs and how to put machines together. If you have already had some experience with working wtih CNC Machines all of this information may be something that you actually already know.

Many DIYers are people who are hobbyist. Many put together machines and then either sell the plans to others or put them on a website with pictures and step by step instructions. Usually the cost of the plans is under $40 and this includes detailed pictures.

The type of CNC machine you can build is only limited by your imagination. Most people concentrate on milling machines and router tables but you can also find plans for plasma cutters, foam cutters and lathes all with CNC adaptations. If you are a hobbyist you may consider the mini CNC machine because it is small enough to fit on a workbench or table top and runs through the use of your PC.

Ground-breaking Plasmascluster Ionic Air Purifier Decimates Bird Flu Virus

Japanese Sharp Corporation releases a press statement on 27 August 2008 that did not grab any headlines. But one day, it may be on Page One of every newspaper on earth! Incorporated in its ionic air purifier, the Plasmacluster Ion Technology (more on this in a later post) has just been scientifically proven to be 99.9% effective in eliminating the bird flu virus known as H5N1.

As we have been constantly reminded by the press, bird flu is the prime suspect to cause mankind's next pandemic. Pandemic does not just sound terrifying. It is. That’s when a highly contagious and deadly virus goes global, in a very negative sense. The worst pandemic on record was the Spanish flu in 1918 which is believed to have killed 50 million people worldwide! That deadly killer flu was confirmed on 5 October 2005 by the World Health Organization (WHO) to be caused by H1N1, a bird flu virus.

Red Alert! Time to PANIC?

Not just yet. The H5N1 virus was identified in China in 1996. Up to 10 Sep 2008, WHO data puts the death toll at 245, a "relatively small number" statistically. So what’s the fuss? Mutation of the bird flu virus to achieve human-to-human transmission capability is the ultimate horror of the scientific community. Currently, there has been only one probable case of human-to-human transmission recorded in Thailand in September 2004. Don't be surprised by the global pandemonium in the event that the dreaded virus mutation actually occurs.

As the threat grows day by day, countries around the globe are conscientiously preparing for the worse (more on this in a later post). As protectors of our families and loved ones, we should start doing some homework too.

Ok, so what’s all this got to do with Sharp’s ionic air purifier. Is it not just another ordinary ionic air purifier? Yes, because it takes care of the usual pollutants (dust, dirt, smoke, dander, pollen, cuisine odors, pet odors, allergens etc) that contaminate the air that we breathe and live in. But if we can get protection from all these and more in one ionic air purifier, especially one that is a tested defense shield against a potentially deadly virus, why not? That's what Sharp is claiming, get the all-in-one package with their Plasmacluster Ion Air Purifier.

Obviously, for the value-conscious, the next logical question would be “yes, that makes a whole lot of sense but at what cost”? Per Sharp, not a penny more! Sharp contends that it is cheaper than any other competing ionic air purifier when measured over 5 years. Value for money grabs my attention anytime! How is it possible in this nothing-is-for-free world?

With the Plasmacluster Ionic Air Purifier Model FP-N40CX as the basis, Sharp contends that it is great value for money as there is no filter replacement costs for the first 5 years. At first sight, the typical competitor's upfront cost of US$160 looks cheap compared to Sharp's US$399. But add in the annual replacement filter replacement costs of US$100 and the total outlay for the competing ionic air purifier comes to US$560.

Feedback on relevant data on Sharp or its competitors will be very much appreciated. Feel free to drop me a note if you have actual numbers.

Meanwhile, I'm going to scrutinise intently the Sharp Plasmacluster Ion Technology. Now is the time to research, while bird flu is still not quite at pandemic proportions.

Don't procrastinate. Fear etches itself deep in my psyche. It was like a horror movie that ran for months. Paranoia abounded in crowded places even as people commuted to work on buses and MRT trains. Taxis cruised empty as stories were told of the infected travelling in them to hospital. It was near pandemonium in many Asian cities as pandemic fears took hold. SARS! Four letters that struck terror in Asia. The SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) virus started spreading from Asia, infected 8,096 people around the world, resulting in 774 fatalities. We all know that being well prepared is half the battle won.

Watch this space as we track exciting developments in our pursuit of safe, pure and clean air with nothing more than an ionic air purifier.

Learn about CNC Machinists

CNC

A CNC Machinist also known as a CNC operator is the individual who is able to run the CNC machine. They are involved with the understanding of the process of their type of machining and are capable of looking at blueprints of the drawings of parts to be created and setting the machine up in order to produce the part.

A CNC machinist must understand various software programs including CAD and CAM and understand the intricacies of the CNC machine they are in charge of operating. Depending on the industry the individual operator works within, they may be knowledgeable about milling, cutting, drilling and other types of machining.

There are several skills that a CNC machinist must have which include:

§ They must be a problem solver to be able to troubleshoot the machine if something goes wrong.
§ They need to understand a CNC machine that they are working on and know its capabilities and limitations.
§ They must understand the CNC process and how it works overall with the machining type they need to produce.
§ They have to be able to identify and use various codes.
These operators need to be sure that they can use and find the tools that need to be loaded on the machine very the various project.
§ They should also have mechanical aptitude in working with a variety of machines.

Some Machinist are also capable of programming machines but the job could require a separate person to do the programming. If they are a programmer they would also understand how to organize and plan, would be able to read blueprints and have strong math skills.

Another type of Machinist actually does both operating and programming. This individual may have a background in Tool and Dye making or Mold Making or they may be a General Machinist. In this case they would have an extensive background in programming with CNC and machining and planning; the other requirement is that they would have entered into an apprenticeship to learn these skills that would have lasted three to four years, which means that some of their training would have been on the job.

As CNC Machinist continue working with CNC machines they must continually keep up their skills by taking new training so that they can edit CNC programs where necessary. As technology gets better we all know that various software will get upgraded and its important that when the shop they are working in upgrades they can process the info for these upgrades.

Most CNC machinists have some education but it is usually in the way of a certificate or an apprenticeship program. Since this is a trade, they are able to get experience on the job in some situations. This could be through an apprenticeship or through an entry level position at a company.

Because a CNC machinist is able to do so many things they are generally compensated well. The average salary for a CNC machinist who generalizes is $14.37 to $23.08 an hour. An inexperienced CNC machinist will earn less than one who has lots of experience.

The Basics of CNC Machining Information

CNC

CNC Machining refers to any process that uses a CNC machine. This could be for routing, milling, drilling, or other types of work that is done with metal, wood or other materials. This is a manufacturing process that uses the automatic opportunity from the computer to create shapes or forms that must be precise.

Raw materials are used and they are put into a CNC machine that uses cutting tools to make these shapes. The CNC machining process involves computers that have at least one microprocessor and several units for storage. With CAD or CAM software systems added to CNC the computer can be programmed to produce the precise movements that are able to create the part.

In CNC machining the process is automated which saves the operator time and saves the business money. The operator is able to load the materials, program the machine and then the machine can work without attention when set up properly; the amount of time it is run without attention is also programmed in.

An important aspect of any CNC Machining is for the operator to know the machine well. CNC is an addition to the general aspects of the machine. As an example, if you are doing routing, adding CNC to the process only automates it. However, for the operator, it means that they must understand the machine, how to put in codes or use CAD or CAM and how to operate the machine; they must also understand how basic routing works.

Another area that is important in order to understand CNC Machining is the basic components of the machine. Like anything around the house that you need working you need to have these machines operate at all times which means you really need to know how they operate in order to be able to fix them if something goes wrong. You really want the operator to get the most out of the machine and you really want that operator to know the limitations and capabilities of the machine in order to do this.

As CNC machining becomes a project the operator is in charge defining five areas. They will first think about the project they want to design and plan it out. Sometimes the best way is to really sit down and draw out some plans which seems old fashioned, but it works.

The next area is to understand CAD to translate the drawing into the computer and then an understanding of CAM to translate the CAD information into machine language. In the final area the individual must understand the Controlling function in order to make the machine do what is required. When all these areas are fulfilled properly they allow the individual to create the project in the way they saw it in their drawing.

CNC machining was traditionally only done in commercial settings with very large CNC machines. Today, there are mini-CNC machines that allow the process to be done on a smaller scale in a home workshop. Before the smaller business really had a rought time building parts and products on a smaller scale but now this technology has allowed smaller businesses to be able to do this.

CNC machining can produce both simple and complex designs and can be used on a variety of materials including aluminum, foam, wood and other metals.

Mini CNC Lathe Overview

CNC

A mini CNC lathe is generally converted from a regular lathe when a hobbyist wants to experience a machine that can do twice the work they can do manually. Usually these are small machines that have a lot of power but that can sit on a desktop or workbench in the home.

There are certain people where starting with a CNC Mini Lathe is the perfect way to experiment with what these machines will do. The CNC mini lathes are good for metalworking in general and for making small parts that need to be made with precision. Generally speaking the individual starts with a CNC Mini Lathe that they buy and then convert it to do CNC.

Most mini-lathes are a smaller version of those used in commercial shops but they can be a different design than those that are made strictly for working with wood. The mini-lathe is able to shape plastics, woods and other materials. Since technology continues to evolve you will find that more and more manufacturers are making things readily convertable to CNC.

Mini lathes usually come in three sizes: 7x10, 7x12 and 7x14. Each one is measured by the length that length of the swing as it goes over the bed of the lathe. Today you can also find 9x models. The conversion of a general mini-lathe to include CNC has many benefits.

There are very different steps that some people take to do items which is why sometimes you will find that there will be manual and CNC instructions in various plans incase you want to do some things manually. At other times they may want to use CNC capabilities to produce repetitive pieces or ones that require a lot of time manually.

Converting to CNC also allows you to be able to produce both 2D and 3D contours which are unavailable when you are only working a CNC Mini Machine by hand. All you have to do is program the computer to create the part you need. You can use wood plastic or metal to make a mold and using the CNC portion you can produce a mold that you can use as many times as you want because it creates a perfect mold. You can do multiple holes drilling by creating the diameter of the whole and then programming it into the computer; from that point the CNC lathe does the work.

When converting to CNC Mini Lathe it will generally take one or two weekends to finish the conversion; however plans will vary depending on what you want your CNC mini-lathe to do. Sometimes you can find somepicutres with perfect step by step directions that are usually under one-hundred dollars.

To convert to CNC you will need to understand either CAD or CAM software because currently these are the types of software that is used in the CNC mini-lathe machines. Usually you can control the lathe right from your PC because the software is created to run in that way. Generally it seems that you can make this conversion for under $2000.

Mini CNC Mill Overview

CNC

The CNC Mini Mill is actually a smaller CNC mill that has been adapted for the use of hobbyists. You always need to think about the space that you have for a CNC Machine and a CNC Mini Machine may be your best bet for good projects and it can still fit in your home workshop. Some people have been able to take a basic small mill machine and turn it into a CNC machine by adding the computer control panel; this is called a CNC conversion.

This machine is also called a table top CNC mill. The mini-mill also allows an individual who doesn't have a lot of space to work within a chance to do so because they don't take up as much space as the larger CNC mill.

CNC has been used in commercial shops over the last ten years or so because of their convenience and ability to allow the operator to get more work done. For hobbyists, the prices have come down and there are more opportunities for the hobbyist to use these machines; many already understand CNC from their jobs so it is easy to convert a smaller machine.

Ideally when you use a smaller machine you want to make sure that it can produce the same quality as the larger machine and this is possible with the mini-CNC machine. CNC Mini Machines really shine when they are used to cut things like Aluminum or when they are used for some finishing work. They also can cut steel because of the low-end torque they use.

Manufacturers like Haas and Syil make reliable CNC Mini Mill that fit on a desktop but have high capacity for work. These are usually bought as regular mills and then converted through the use of a kit into the CNC mill. Alot of times if you look into it, you will find that you can covert these types a mills with a little work and quick and easy. Some conversion kits can show how to set up robotics as well.

The conversion process is much more cost effective according to those who have done it, than purchasing one out right. If you take a little bit of time to look into the costs of things you may find a new CNC Mini machine can cost more than $2,000 dollars and a conversion kit could cost well under one thousand dollars.

There are many advantages for hobbyists to use computerized programs for milling at home. Some of these include:

§ They can work more materials like soft waxes and hard steels and this allows them to experiment with materials they may not have used when they had to mill it by hand. They can also produce parts much faster than with regular milling machines.

§ This process allows them to work with more intricate patterns and produce higher precision components. This allows for more ideas to be produced.

§ The small CNC Mini Lathe can create smoother finishes on their projects and make for a better design.

There are a variety of projects that can be done with a CNC mini mill and may are being produced by a company called Sherline Products. On their website they show many projects from a mini-steam engine to a small hobby church that people can actually duplicate. These are some of the ways that a CNC mini-mill can be used. These projects can be seen by going to their website at http://sherline.com/CNCproj.htm.

Overview of CNC Foam Cutting

CNC

A CNC Foam cutter is a machine that cuts blocks of foam into a variety of different shapes and sizes through the use of a computer that fully automates the process. As you can imagine, the name of this process makes a lot of sense because its called hot wire foam cutter, and its the hot wire cutter that is used to make a cut in the foam.

Usually the wire is made from stainless steel, nichrome and the wire can be very thick. The wire is heated using a process called electrical resistance which means it gets hot enough (around 200 degrees centigrade) to vaporize the foam before the wire makes contact with it. What happens because of this process is a smoother cut and you can product a variety of shapes and sizes.

Depending on the length of the wire, the process will cut a shallow or deep cut. As you can imagine it is not good when the wire sags so there are machines that are keeping this wire very tight when it makes the cuts. On many CNC Foam machines this wire is held vertically so that it doesn’t create the problem with sagging.

These shapes are cut by the cutting wire that is attached to the machine. They will cut either polystyrene or polyurethane blocks. The types of foam that a CNC foam cutter can cut include anything that is thermofusible and expanded. What this basically means is that the foam has to be able to melt at one of the lower temperatures. Some of them include:

§ Polystyrene -- these are blocks of balls that are expanded.
§ Polystyrene -- this is extruded foam and comes in a variety of colors that include green, pink, purple or gray and these are usually plates that are smooth.
§ Polymethacrylimide -- a very expensive material and it is rigid foam with a low density.
§ Polypropylene -- which is flexible and expanded and can be a solution to protection from shock.
§ Polyethylene -- these are foams that are tear resistant and flexible.

With the CNC Foam Cutter you can form a more prism like or tapered shape in the block of foam. A hot-wire that is under a high tension to cut the foam. There are two different types of components one is called a race that controls the tensin of the wire and the other are the stepper motors that work on precision and accuracy.

Some CNC foam cutters also offer different attachments like a lathe and this allows the machine to use either preformed or stretched wire. Also the machine is able to cut a variety of shapes including spirals or blocks of ornamental structure like balusters for stairways or planters.

There are a variety of uses for foam cutters that include making signage, model airplanes, protyping, lost foam cutting and more. The CNC Foam Cutter is a flexible machine and is only limited by the imagination.
Although many people prefer to purchase a CNC foam cutter there are also plans on the Internet that show how to make them inexpensively for hobbyists and others who are interested in working with foam.

CNC Programming General Information

CNC

G Code Programming is one of the most effective ways that people are using today in order to cut metal and do other processes in manufacturing. There are a variety of different CNC Hobbyist that are using CNC Programming today to make metal, foam, or wood objects. CNC has created a way for many people to manufacture or fabricate parts quickly and effortlessly.

CNC stands for computer numerical control and is basically the use of a computer to do certain types of operations. This is a process that can be applied to lathe, router, foam cutters and laser machines; it can also be applied to mini versions of these types of machines.

There are basically two types of categories that CNC Programming will fall into point to point positioning or continuous path positioning. It may be worth it to check to see if your computer can execute both types of programming and this all depends on how advanced the software program is being used. This means that the operator must understand both processes in order to run the machine.

Here is a simple explanation of these two categories:

Point to point positioning -- this category is mostly used when drilling, boring, punching or tapping is needed. This is a process used to position from one point to another when the machine process is being done. The program will work going to as many positions as it needs to in order to get the process finished whether that is from the X to the Y position or not.

Continuous Path Positioning -- You will generally see this being used when there is a milling machine that used for contouring or even a lathe that is being used for contouring. This means that the cutting tool moves in a continuous motion from one point to another until the piece is completed. This means that the operator has to be able to program the machine so that it continues on several axes at a time and simultaneously.

Continuous path positioning also uses a series of processes called interpolation which is the way in which the machine is programmed to go. Interpolation can be helical, parabolic, cubic, circular and more.  The basic function of this interpolation is to keep the programmed information stored and to monitor and direct the axes in how it should go.

What needs to happen first before any programming can start is that we are going to need a finalized design of the basic drawing of what the computer is going to make. This must be studied to make sure that the operator understands the intricacies of the drawing so they can translate the information into the computer software they are using.

This means that the operator must be skilled enough to understand how the paper drawing will translate to the computer, and then be able to program this information into the computer so that the machine will perform the cuts or the processes accordingly.

When you think about this process, it is a good idea to think about what you would do if you were producing the work manually because anything you would do manually, you will depend on the machine to do automatically. By understanding CNC Programming the individual will be more successful.

Is Your Data In Safe Hands?

No matter if you have taken all the required precautions, when a server or a hard drive fails you can guarantee that the search for a company to sort out the problem will be the foremost thing on most peoples minds, but how do you choose the best comapny to do the job for you?

Making the right choice in which data recovery company to work with can be a bit of a chore at an often crucial time, but getting it right is vitally important to ensure the best success rate.

The company that gets your vote should have dedicated Data recovery staff that are professionally trained for the required task

Unfortunately some companies only undertake recovery tasks on an irregular basis and do not have either the skill set or necessary tools to carry out a full recovery of your data.

A true data recovery lab will be able to successfully recover data from Servers, Laptop’s, Desktop’s, CD/DVD’s and all other types of storage media, not simply just from a failed hard drive

They should be up to date with the latest hard drive technology and Raid recovery techniques and if top tier will also conduct their own research and development.

If they are leaders in data solutions they should also be able to offer a full gamut of data recovery services including full server and raid recovery capabilities. If the company are an industry leader they will also offer a call out service as this is often a key requirement for server and raid data recovery.

Frighteningly some companies will only have a basic workbench to recover your data, you want to ensure at the very least they have a certified (preferably certified to ISO class 3 standards) clean room.

In the event of your drive needing to be stripped down you need to know who is actually handling your data and is it secure? Having to send your drive to another country for assessment should not be a requirement in this day and age.

To sum up losing data can cripple a company or cause personal heartache, so make sure you are dealing with a reputable firm as much as you can, and ask the awkward questions.

Data Backup for your Business

If you are a small business owner then chances are at least once you have thought about what would happen if you loss all your data.  The fact is most small companies do nothing to backup their data.  If you were to loose your data today would you be able to recover from such a loss.  Many companies go out of business for such a simple but costly mistake.

We found a great guide on this business data backup page.  The article is simple and blunt.  Basically this article gives you great options and tips on how to backup your data and what the cheaper and simplest methods are.  Don’t get caught losing your data now that you know better.

Data backup solutions are not just for people that own a business. No computer user should be without a data backup solution.  When selecting a client to backup your data you don’t just want one that will backup your personal and business files.  You need a solution that will backup your entire computer using an image.  That way if your hard drive fails you can use the backup to get your computer fully back to what it used to look like.  This way you still have all your custom settings and software.  Saving time reloading software is worth the cost.  Once again we will refer you over to this business backup software page.  Don’t worry the cost is very low considering what you are getting in return.

You should also consider getting software to protect your computer online as well.  Many people think that just because they only go to safe sites that they are free from viruses.  While we normally don’t recommend products you should check out this Vista spyware guide that talks about solutions to help protect your computer and remove any threats found.Don't worry about the site being dedicated to Vista they still cover XP.

CNC Plasma Cutter Overview

CNC

The CNC Plasma Cutting process has been in existence for over 50 years and was created during World War II. At that time the government needed a welding process that would weld together aircraft parts in a better way than what they were using. This process used inert gas that acted as a barrier to protect an electric arc that stopped oxidation from forming on the weld.

As this process was improved over time, people experimented with the openings in the arc to see how they could create the best way for the process to be done. It was also found that if the opening where the inert gas passed through was restricted it would make a hotter flame. On the other hand, if the opening was made smaller, they could also speed up the flow.

The plasma-arc cutting process which is what came out of all of these experiements, became used in the commercial industry in the early 1960s. What a lot of businesses found out what that this was a very expensive process to take into their company.

Today, the process has improved dramatically and there are even CNC Plasma Cutter that are portable; some models even have air compressors build in for a fuller portability. Many are smaller and are able to cut sheet metal as their primary work but others can output a lot more in voltage and in work. Also as the CNC plasma cutter was created the process could be totally automated; all an operator has to do is key in how they want the plasma cutter to cut and it does the cut perfectly every time.

CNC plasma cutters come in a variety of sizes but they all basically work the same way. The process sends a gas that is pressurized through a channel. The gas could be argon, oxygen or nitrogen that is sent through this channel. Inside the channel is an electrode that is negatively charged.  When power is applied to the electrode and the tip of the plasma cutter is touch to the metal, it creates a full circuit.

At this point this circuit makes a high powered spark that goes through the channel; the gas is heated to a very high heat called the fourth state of matter. When this happens a direct stream of plasma turns the metal into molten slag. What this means is that you have a very high heat and a very fast moving beam of light that hits the metal.

The plasma is what makes the electrical current and this power supply keeps working until the circuit between the electrode and the power supply is broken. Also the cutter nozzle has channels in it so that it can continue to create a consistent flow of shielding gas. This also allows the plasma beam to stay consistent on the metal to be melted.

Some CNC Plasma Cutter have robotic arms that do the work. The point to having this in the CNC mode is that the process is totally automated and it will continue to work to cut with precision as long as the information is programmed correctly into the computer.
